The Madison Area Builders Assocation is your link between a highly complex web of organizations, industry employers, products and resources surrounding the residential consrtuction industry. We wish to make this vast array of opportunities more tangible and workable for both you and your students. Here are just some of the offerings. Grades K-3: Coloring and Activity Books - Homes of Our Own. An online coloring book with a design-your-own-home page offered by the National Association of Homebuilders.
- Building is Fun and Construction is Fun coloring books offered for sale by the Associated General Contractors. Posters and pins are also available through
the AGC website. Grades 2-3: Video and Activity Kits - The Case of the New Clubhouse in the Elm Street Detective's Club series is an 11-minute video including a 20-page teacher guide with 10 learning units on subjects ranging from habitat to building your own dream house. Offered for sale from Cambridge Educational.
Grades 3-5: Online Activities - Energy and Electricity activity web pages are available from MG&E.
Grades 6-9: Activity Kits - On Site! Took Kit is a tool box offered for sale by the Associated General Contractors AGC website and published through Scholastic Books. It has curriculum-based lessons and is intended for use in Social Studies, but has links to Language Arts and Science. Nine Lesson plans take a class an average of 15-20 hours to complete.
Grades 9-12: Video/DVD and Discussion Resources - Real Jobs, Great Trades is a 13-minute video with discussion guide designed as an awareness tool for a Career Day presentation regarding building-related trades. This material was prepared by the National Association of Homebuilders and is offered for sale by Cambridge Educational.
- Women in the Home Build Industry. This video provides an inside look into the career opportunities from beginning to success through interviews and testimonials of women in the home building indeustry. This is offered for sale by Cambridge Educational.
Grades 9-12: Activity/Learning Kits - Build Homes of Our Own is a comprehensive lesson plan taught within the activities in a CD-ROM. The student is challenged to work within a budget, schedule to build a home and end with the sale of the home. Educators may obtain a copy free of charage through the National Association of Home Builders.
